PEERS PROGRAM
The Breaking Social Barriers PEERS program is an evidence-based social skills training course, designed specifically for young adults on the autism spectrum. These classes are UCLA's acclaimed PEERS treatment program, which is the only research-based method for helping young adults with autism form and maintain friendships. This program offers a unique approach tailored to this age group.

OVERVIEW
4 sessions, each lasting 6 weeks
Format:
60-90 minute Zoom sessions
Target Audience:
Young adults aged 18-30
Prerequisites:
Social motivation and a dedicated social coach (parent or friend) for weekly homework support
PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Social Skills Training
Conversational Skills: Starting and maintaining conversations, using humor appropriately.

Social Etiquette: Rules for electronic communication, entering and exiting conversations, handling arguments and disagreements.

Friendship Building: Identifying and expanding social opportunities, organizing successful get-togethers, managing peer rejection.

Romantic Relationships: Strategies for safely dating and maintaining romantic relationships.

Support Structure
Social Coaching: Participants are encouraged to work with a social coach who aids in completing homework assignments and provides ongoing support.

Practice Opportunities: Sessions include practice of social skills and the application of learned strategies in real-life scenarios.

PURPOSE
The Breaking Social Barriers PEERS program aims to equip young adults with practical social skills, foster independence in relationships, and provide the tools needed to build and sustain meaningful friendships and romantic connections. By focusing on evidence-based strategies and offering consistent support through social coaching, the program helps participants navigate the complexities of interactions and achieve their personal social goals.
Session One begins January 2025 on Tuesdays/Wednesdays 6-7:30 PM Pacific Coast Time. The cost per session is $160.
